Three UNNES Wushu Athletes Won Gold and Silver Medals at the FISU University World Cup Combat Sports

Three UNNES Wushu athletes who are members of the Indonesian Wushu National Team, successfully achieved the achievements by obtaining 2 golds and 1 silver at the FISU University World Cup Combat Sports event which took place in Turkey on September 21-26, 2022. In the final match of the Sanda number, Admiral Pandu Pratama, who dropped in the men's 52 kg class, defeated the host athlete of Turkiye with a score of 2-0. Following the success of the women's Final match, Tharisa Dea Florentina managed to get victory by overthrowing the host athlete of Turkey in the women's 52 kg class with a score of 2-0.

While Thania Kusumaningtyas had to concede the advantage of the opponent from Iraq with a score of 0-2 and had to settle for second place with a silver medal. One wushu athlete from UNNES on behalf of Bintang Reindra has not been lucky to win a medal after being defeated by Iran in the preliminary round. According to Wushu Coach Dr. Heny Setyawati, the achievements of athletes in FISU 2022 exceeded the target,  obviously we are immensely proud, and oversaw the seriousness and hard work of athletes in training so far. The four UNNES sanda wushu athletes left for Turkey with 5 Taolu wushu athletes. So that the total number of athletes competing in Turkey is 9 athletes.

The overall medals of the Indonesian Wushu National Team amounted to 5 gold medals and 3 silver medals. The Indonesian Wushu National Team under the leadership of Mr. Airlangga Hartarto displayed a significant increase in achievements in international events. In the World University Sport Combat Games 2022 Turkey, it is the last tryout event for Indonesian Wushu National Training Center athletes. Furthermore, Pandu and colleagues will return to the national training center to prepare for the May 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia and the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games which are delayed and will be held in 2023.

The Rector of UNNES, Prof. Dr. Fathur Rokhman MHum expressed his pride in UNNES students who won medals in international events. Prof. Fathur explained, in various national and international events, UNNES athletes can always display their best achievements. According to Prof. Fathur, this shows that UNNES is increasingly reputable and has competitiveness in the international arena.
