Degree Equalization

Based on Government Regulation No. 46 of 2019 concerning about the Religious Higher Education Process of Equalizing Foreign Diplomas, the Directorate of Learning and Student Affairs organizes the Foreign Diploma Equalization Service with the aim to providing recognition of diploma qualifications obtained from overseas universities with higher education in Indonesia according to the Indonesian Qualification Framework (IQF) and equalizing the cumulative grade point average (GPA) from overseas universities in accordance with the National Higher Education Standards in Indonesia.

To have degree equalizations, applicants must complete all the requirements in the form of e-documents or scans of original documents. The requirements divided into mandatory requirements and special requirements. The special requirements must be completed by applicants from certain countries or certain educational programs.

The mandatory requirements consist of:

  1. Higher education institutions abroad or the program study need to be accredited by the government or authorized institution.
  2. Letter of Acceptance (LoA) published by the higher education institution.
  3. Original copy of diploma translated to Indonesian language or English language by sworn translator.
  4. Original copy of diploma published by previous education level institution verified by the institution and The Directorate general of higher education.
  5. Original copy of academic transcript diploma translated to Indonesian language or English language by sworn translator.
  6. A catalog or academic guidelines book in accordance with the program study you are going to take, contained the curriculum or academic rules published by the local higher education institute translated to Indonesian language or English language.
  7. If passport or visa is lost, applicant should attach:
    • Documents from a local police station providing details of loss.
    • A statement letter from the institution that clarifies that the party concerned has pursued the study or graduated from the institution.
    • A statement letter from Representative office of Republic of Indonesia clarifying that the party has lived and studied in the country.
  8. A photograph with red background (max. 3 MB).

The special requirements consist of:

  1. Attach proof of accreditations from the local government or local representative office of the Republic of Indonesia.
  2. Study visa for graduates from Malaysia.
  3. For doctoral programs, the publication should be published in internatonal journals.
  4. Attach dissertation for graduates from the doctoral program, thesis for graduates from the master program, and the final report for graduates from the bachelor program.
  5. The publication should be published at least in the proceedings for graduates of the masters by-research program
  6. For graduates from Taiwan, the final assignment ratification sheet must be signed by the examiner.
  7. Attach sertificate from the University explaining that there is no obligation to publish.
  8. China Academic Degree & Graduate Education Development Center (CDGDC) documents for graduates of bachelor master's programs and doctors from China, if CDGDC is not written in English, it must be completed with additional CDGDC translations into Indonesian or English by a sworn translator.
  9. A progress report signed by the supervisor which contains notes while undergoing guidance during research lectures.
  10. CHSI documents (China Higher Education Academic Credential Veritation) must be presented with a diploma program from China, if the CHSI is not written in English, it must be accompanied by an additional CHSI Translation into Indonesian to Bates English by a sworn translator.
  11. Study assignment letter issued by the authorized agency for the state civil apparatus (ASN).
  12. For graduates of a double degree program or joint degree program, they must attach a diploma or certificate of graduation and academic transcripts from the Domestic Higher Education and a permit document from the Directorate General of Institutions. For State Universities with Legal Entities, the applicant attaches a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) document and a letter of notification of the implementation of the program to the Directorate General of Institutions.
  13. Applicants who are not Indonesian Citizens (WNI) must attach:
    • All documents written on Mandatory requirements
    • A letter from the sponsor in Indonesia explaining the objective of the equalization for the applicant and
    • Especially for diplomas and transcripts, must be legalized in accordance with the legal provisions of the country where the diploma and transcript are issued.
  14. Resident permit or similar documents for residence permit for applicants who study with the full time study model.
  15. Chronology of the learning process from the relevant foreign university and a full time student certificate.
