Jakarta — The Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology (Diktiristek) continues strengthening Indonesian universities' competitiveness in the global competitive arena. This is an indicator embedded in the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), setting a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) with the target of achieving five Indonesian universities in the top 500 world's best universities.
With the continuous synergy and efforts between the Ministry of Education and 16 PTNBH, in 2022, the 2020-2024 Strategies Plan (RENSTRA) targets for 5 universities to be included in the top 500 world's best universities according to the QS World University Rankings (WUR) has been achieved. This good news was received through an announcement and reported from the QS WUR page www.topuniversities.com on June 8, 2022, at 21.00 BST, or June 9, 2022, at 03.00 WIB. The five leading Indonesian universities are Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) which in the last four years has continued to rise in ranking ahead of other Indonesian universities, at rank 231, followed by the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) at 235, and then followed by the Universitas Indonesia. (UI) at position 248, Universitas Airlangga (Unair) at rank 369, and completed by the Institut Pertanian Bogor at rank 449.
Meanwhile, other Indonesian universities also showed better achievements than the previous year in succession, namely the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in 701-751, Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) 751-800, Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), and Universitas Brawijaya (Unibraw) in the 801-1000 range, Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) and Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) in the 1001-1200 range, and Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU) and Universitas Andalas (Unand) in 1201+.
As a form of government support and ongoing commitment, in 2022 the World Class University Rankings (WCU) development program in higher education will be strengthened by funding from the Higher Education Endowment Fund (DAPT) as mandated by Presidential Regulation Number 111 concerning Education Endowment Fund. This funding is projected to be used for multiple years to facilitate more flexible financing for WCU development programs. Thus, it is hoped that universities that receive the DAPT funding allocation can achieve a better reputation and recognition as World Clasuniversitiesty (WCU).
